Late on Monday night, a local BJP leader was fatally shot near his residence in Brahmapur, Odisha. Authorities have identified the victim as Pitabas Panda, a member of the Odisha State Bar Council and a practicing lawyer. According to initial police reports, the shooting occurred outside his home in Brahmanagar around 10 PM, where two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on him. He was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur, but doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Pitabas Panda was not only a member of the Odisha State Bar Council but also had previously been associated with the Congress party. Police stated that he was shot at close range while standing by the roadside. The motive behind the attack is currently under investigation.
